Granular bentonite has been assessed regarding its capacity to remove Hg(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) from aqueous solutions. Sorption capacities, kinetics and the dependence of the sorption process on pH were determined. Fractional power, pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intra-particle diffusion equations were used to model the kinetics of metal adsorption. The pseudo-second-order model showed the best fit to experimental data. Different two-parameter sorption isotherm models (Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin?CRadushkevich) were used to fit the equilibrium data. Freundlich's isotherm model gave the best fit to experimental data. The selectivity of granular bentonite towards these metals is Pb(II)?>?Cd(II)?>?Hg(II). The adsorption capacities of granular bentonite towards the metals expressed in milligramme metal per gramme granular bentonite are 19.45, 13.05 and 1.7 for Pb(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II), respectively (for an initial concentration of 100 mg metal/L).  相似文献

Silicon (Si) is known to reduce the incidence of pathogens on many plants. Little information is available on the potential positive effects of Si on the susceptibility of banana (Musa acuminata) to pathogens. Root-rot fungi of the genus Cylindrocladium have been reported, along with endoparasitic nematodes, to be the causal agent of toppling disease and severe yield loss. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of Si supply on Cylindrocladium spathiphylli infection on banana. Plantlets inoculated by dipping the root system in a conidial suspension of the pathogen were grown on a desilicated ferralsol and amended, or not, with 2 mM of soluble Si under greenhouse conditions in Guadeloupe. The root lesion severity was evaluated using the image analysis program WinRHIZO 7, 14 and 21 days after inoculation. A reduction of about 50% of root necrosis was observed 14 days after inoculation for the Si-supplied plants compared with those not supplied with Si. The Si amendment also alleviated growth reduction caused by the pathogen. These results suggest that Si could have a positive effect on banana resistance to C. spathiphylli and provide an environmentally friendly alternative to pesticides for the integrated control of an important crop disease.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Quinone outside inhibitor (QoI) resistance as a consequence of point mutations in the cytochrome b (cyt b) gene has been reported in numerous plant pathogenic fungi. To examine the potential for QoI resistance development in those Monilinia species causing brown rot of stone and pome fruits [Monilinia fructicola (G Winter) Honey, M. laxa (Aderhold & Ruhland) Honey and M. fructigena (Aderhold & Ruhland) Honey], an examination was made of the sequence and exon/intron structure of their cyt b genes for the presence of any point mutations and/or introns commonly associated with resistance to QoIs in fungal plant pathogens. RESULTS: None of the point mutations typically linked to QoI resistance was present in any of the Monilinia isolates examined. Furthermore, the cyt b genes from M. fructicola and M. laxa, but not M. fructigena, possessed a group‐I‐like intron directly after codon 143. Based on the results obtained, a simple PCR assay using a single primer pair was developed, allowing discrimination between the three Monilinia species without the need for culturing. CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest that resistance to QoI fungicides based on the G143A mutation is not likely to occur in M. fructicola or M. laxa. Conversely, M. fructigena may be at higher risk for developing QoI resistance owing to the absence of a G143‐associated intron. Copyright © 2010 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Legumes can enter into symbiotic relationships with both nitrogen-fixing bacteria (rhizobia) and mycorrhizal fungi. Nodulation by rhizobia results from a signal transduction pathway induced in legume roots by rhizobial Nod factors. DMI3, a Medicago truncatula gene that acts immediately downstream of calcium spiking in this signaling pathway and is required for both nodulation and mycorrhizal infection, has high sequence similarity to genes encoding calcium and calmodulin-dependent protein kinases (CCaMKs). This indicates that calcium spiking is likely an essential component of the signaling cascade leading to nodule development and mycorrhizal infection, and sheds light on the biological role of plant CCaMKs.  相似文献

Legumes form symbiotic associations with both mycorrhizal fungi and nitrogen-fixing soil bacteria called rhizobia. Several of the plant genes required for transduction of rhizobial signals, the Nod factors, are also necessary for mycorrhizal symbiosis. Here, we describe the cloning and characterization of one such gene from the legume Medicago truncatula. The DMI1 (does not make infections) gene encodes a novel protein with low global similarity to a ligand-gated cation channel domain of archaea. The protein is highly conserved in angiosperms and ancestral to land plants. We suggest that DMI1 represents an ancient plant-specific innovation, potentially enabling mycorrhizal associations.  相似文献

We compared responses to drought and re-watering of greenhouse-grown cuttings of Populus x euramericana (Dode) Guinier clones, Luisa Avanzo and Dorskamp. Total leaf area, leaf number, leaf area increment and stomatal conductance were evaluated periodically during a 29-day drought period and for 16 days after re-watering. Soil water content and predawn leaf water potential (Psi(wp)) were measured on Days 29 and 45. On the same days, relative water content (RWC), specific leaf area (SLA), nitrogen, chlorophyll, soluble sugars, total phenols, flavanols and antioxidant activity were determined for leaves taken from the bottom to the top of each cutting. Leaves of Luisa Avanzo cuttings grew more rapidly than leaves of Dorskamp and exhibited higher SLA, but lower concentrations of nitrogen, chlorophyll and soluble sugars and lower antioxidant activity per unit area. On Day 29, after withholding water, both clones had closed their stomata, reduced rates of leaf growth, and lower Psi(wp) and RWC; however, the clones differed in their responses to soil water depletion. Compared to Dorskamp, Luisa Avanzo closed its stomata earlier and maintained higher Psi(wp), but lower RWC and leaf sugar concentrations. Antioxidant activity of leaf methanolic extracts decreased in response to water stress only in Luisa Avanzo. Leaf physiology and its modulation by water stress were age dependent in Luisa Avanzo.  相似文献

Grapes and wines are now known to constitute a rich source of phenolics such as stilbenes and flavonoids. These compounds have been shown to have cancer chemopreventive activity and potential beneficial effects on cardiovascular diseases thanks to their antioxidant and antiplatelet properties. However, because little is known about African wines and their phenolic compositions, we investigated wine samples from North Africa. A three-step method was used for the fractionation of the Merlot variety wine: column chromatography followed by centrifugal partition chromatography and reversed-phase semipreparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Six polyphenolic compounds of the Merlot variety (from Algeria) were isolated and identified by NMR spectroscopy, five of which are known (trans-resveratrol, trans-piceid, trans-epsilon-viniferin, pallidol, and astilbin) and one that is reported for the first time in wine, (+)-hopeaphenol, a stilbene tetramer. Furthermore, these molecules were quantified in 10 commercial wines from North Africa by means of an analytical HPLC system coupled with diode array detection. Differences in concentrations were found ranging in mg/L from 4.6 to 45 (trans-piceid), 0.66 to 3.45 (trans-resveratrol), 0.2 to 1.2 (trans-epsilon-viniferin), 0.2 to 9.2 (pallidol), 0.3 to 3.8 (hopeaphenol), and 10.8 to 24.22 (astilbin). Such a high level of pallidol and astilbin has never been recorded in wine. North African wines may contribute to a significant proportion of dietary intake of stilbene and astilbin, which may have health benefits.  相似文献

In the first part of this work, the analysis of the polyphenolic compounds remaining in the wine after different contact times with yeast lees during simulation of red wine aging was undertaken. To achieve a more precise view of the wine polyphenols adsorbed on lees during red wine aging and to establish a clear balance between adsorbed and remnant polyphenol compounds, the specific analysis of the chemical composition of the adsorbed polyphenolic compounds (condensed tannins and anthocyanins) after their partial desorbtion from yeast lees by denaturation treatments was realized in the second part of the study. The total recovery of polyphenol compounds from yeast lees was not complete, since a rather important part of the initial wine colored polyphenols, especially those with a dominant blue color component, remained strongly adsorbed on yeast lees, as monitored by color tristimulus and reflectance spectra measurements. All anthocyanins were recovered at a rather high percentage (about 62%), and it was demonstrated that they were not adsorbed in relation with their sole polarity. Very few monomeric phenolic compounds were extracted from yeast lees. With the use of drastic denaturing treatments, the total recovery of condensed tannins reached 83%. Such tannins extracted from yeast lees exhibited very high polymeric size and a rather high percentage of galloylated residues by comparison with initial wine tannins, indicating that nonpolar tannins were preferentially desorbed from yeast lees by the extraction treatments.  相似文献
